John specializes in the defence of tort claims. John’s experience includes acting as counsel for numerous insurers, self insured companies and regulatory bodies.
John handles high profile and large value litigation which has featured prominently in national and local news. John’s clients entrust him in the defence of difficult and complex claims including those involving large losses, multiple parties, bad faith and public attention.
With substantial judge and jury trial experience, John is sought out as trial counsel with an eager willingness to see the defence of claims against his clients to verdict. John has many reported decisions on issues including the rights of defendants to medical examinations, immunity of quasi judicial tribunals, negligence, abuse of process and malicious prosecution claims as well as assessment of fatality damages.
John has appeared before the Divisional Court and Court of Appeal on issues involving the conduct of judges at trial, interpretation of the Rules of Civil Procedure and conduct of self regulating professions.
John has written articles and made presentations, client, legal and industry groups and has written and published articles in The Lawyers Weekly. Issues include: sexual abuse claims, motions practice, consent to operate vehicles and litigation procedure. John has lectured to clients, the Ontario Trucking Association and the Insurance Institute of Ontario on topics including: coverage, economic loss claims, modified vehicles, property claims and proofs of loss as well as workers’ compensation statutory bars to litigation.
